Two Year Olds

You’ve often heard the expression “Terrible Twos”
in reference to young children. Two year olds are anything but
terrible. They are in a transitional stage between babyhood and
preschool. Many times
they become frustrated in this “in-between” stage. They are
striving to be independent while still at times desiring the
dependence of the toddler years. The things that they are competent
of doing are sometimes far behind their desires. Many times they
cannot decide what they want to do. The adamant head-shaking of
“no” can be accompanied by the outstretched hand of “yes”. Twos
need to have firm guidance and limits set to govern behavior. Even
at this early stage we offer a program well grounded in language,
mathematics, music, and reasoning. We also stress social
development and the use of communication to solve problems. At this
age we also attempt, with parental assistance, to begin
potty-training. Many young twos are delighted to follow the example
of the older students in the class to give up diapers for pull-ups
and be a “big kid”.
